    The story I heard is that rainwater collects in the wells of the leaves. Thirsty travelers could cut a leaf, turn it upside down and have a drink of water. What other explanation did you hear?

    Yesterday I was driving outside of town on my way to the gas station and I passed by a local nursery. I saw flashes of Croton color, so on my way back I had to stop. I ended up with these four. Any id's would be appreciated. First all four

    Jeff, I will see what I can do about getting a cutting of that one. Most of his Crotons are monstrous in size, but this one is not very big yet. I might be able to get a cutting or two. Here's the size of most of his Crotons - this one appears dark purple/black.

    I had a chance to check out my friend's Zamia today. Last year it had 3 cones, this year there is only one so far. It had a new flush of leaves and looked great!
