    Licuala peltata var. 'sumawongii'

Re: L. elegans Karma, it does work now and then.:) Maybe you missed my ID of papaya as mango...:o I like the new organization! A bit more user-friendly I think, better visually. I have a lot on my plate through the end of the month, way over-committed, not likely to get a lot done re...

    Dypsis robusta

Jeff Marcus had a photo in his presentation of the identical palm at the identical location along with a definite name from Dransfield. But I will double-check that and then check one more time before loading the pic and posting info. I posted a bit on it here...

    Licuala peltata var. 'sumawongii'

Re: L. elegans I was really surprised by this, having made the mistake of thinking the L. elegans on the Kew list was the same as the entire-leaf Licuala shown in the photos, so I've been using the wrong name for a couple of years, completely oblivious to the correct name. (I seem to...

    Licuala peltata var. 'sumawongii'

Re: L. elegans Based on recent discussion and comments from Dr. John Dransfield, it seems likely the palms pictured are Licuala peltata var. sumawongii. To quote him directly: "As far as I know, there are no photos of the real Licuala elegans - in any case it is probably Licuala pumila. So...

    Help with Dypsis ID

I'm not familiar with D. lutescens flowers, but for a palm this size of this aspect, that is the most likely candidate. Where is it growing? Unless it is part of an exotic collection, I'd say D. lutescens. (My ID skills are just developing, however!)

    Dypsis prestoniana Mystery

Re: Dypsis prestoniana I'm glad I'm not the only one who's confused. It seems there will eventually be consolidation of these names, some will turn out to be variations within a species. But I also wonder if many of these dypsis freely hybridize, and that might account for so many variations...

    Dypsteries

I have a seedling labeled "Dypsis sp. 'Maria's mystery'". Any idea where that fits in the Dypstery categories? I've never heard of it before, have never seen any discussion about it on Palmtalk.

    My Tampa Fl garden

Fantastic garden, Scott. Do possum eat bamboo? Excellent cordyline collection, and the plant combinations in posts 25, 26, and 27 are just killer.

SPECIES ZONE SCALE 2B: The Queen Zone

Re: SPECIES ZONE SCALE 2B: The Pigmy Date Zone What is the status of the zone scale? There seem to be relatively few species listed. I was looking for Dypsis baronii, for example, and don't see it. Is this concept alive? It seems like there used to be a much larger number of palms listed...

Plant idea needed...help me out ya'll

What kind of a look do you want? Height, density, spread? Caesalpinia pulcherrimia will take the heat and has gorgeous tropicalesque flowers, easy to grow from seed, but you'll probably have to trim it once a year. Echium candicans has nice purple spikes, but won't last forever -- they...

    Real Purdy Anthuriums

Dean, I remember seeing a photo of you with a foliage anthurium with a very loooong leaf. Do you know the name of that one? I saw the same plant in a garden in Vista last weekend (it's quite distinctive - unmistakable), and the gentleman said it was anthurium marmorata, but I can't find that...
