I watched the first 10 minutes, will watch the rest later at home when I can take the time. Exciting! Like Jeff in CR said, Jeff Marcus' commentary is priceless.:)

Can't seem to edit the spelling of 'borhidiana' - it has an extra 'n' in the category name.

    Latin Pronunciation

Digitally spoken names will be far superior to written attempts at pronunciation. Why not list all commonly used forms? As in "Say'bull; also Suh-ball' ", or "Lih kwah' la; also Li cue al' ah". Just to add to the confusion, I have also heard Ra-VEEN-ee-uh, which better conforms to Latin, no...

Palm Puzzle Contest - No. 2

Congratulations to Matt -- I was expecting him to win, he has a reputation for palm IDs -- think Tahina. I was also put off the scent by the missing photos, foolishly thinking Dean wouldn't pick a palm he didn't even have a single photo of, not taking into account his diabolical scheming...

So the silence and a review of the pix that I can now view indicate I am a LOSER (finger shape 'L' against forehead) yet again. So where are all the other guesses??? Some other palm kooks should make some loser guesses so we can eliminate some more names!!!

    Palm Puzzle Contest

I had a couple of (wrong) guesses, but when I saw Frito's post, I realized he was probably right and gave up. The flower on the Rhopalostylus was the key, but how he got the Bismarkia is a mystery. I was madly looking at photos of Latania and Sabal to find a match. Impressive, Frito, do you...

    Doomed in Zone 6

Snowboarding, missed the powder, but lots of fun anyway. Utah is a fun place to live if you like winter sports, but if you are a serious palm aficionado, you might think about planning your escape to a warmer climate. Or at least build a heated greenhouse.:)

    Doomed in Zone 6

You'd have to really work at protecting the palm. With extra care and effort, you might manage. There are stories of a Trachycarpus f. surviving for a while in Alaska, but not exactly thriving. I just got back from a weekend in Utah and didn't see a single palm.:(

    Dypsis robusta

    Yup, that's the one!
